Alicia Woods is an award-winning entrepreneur and dynamic keynote speaker who transforms audiences’ understanding of innovation, resilience, and inclusive leadership. As the founder and CEO of Covergalls Workwear — a venture she successfully pitched on CBC’s Dragons’ Den —Woods has spent more than 20 years breaking barriers in the mining industry. Her keynotes challenge audiences to see beyond the status quo and transform overlooked problems into breakthrough opportunities.
When Woods entered mining equipment sales at 21, she discovered an industry unprepared for women: no underground facilities, no properly fitting safety gear. Rather than accept these limitations, she designed a solution — the covergall, a female-specific coverall that addressed a need the entire industry had overlooked. Covergalls has since evolved into a thriving business built on three pillars: health and safety, diversity and inclusion, and education and advocacy.
Woods has appeared at speaking engagements across North America with her keynotes delivering practical insights drawn from her entrepreneurial journey — from navigating skepticism and self-doubt to identifying systemic gaps and building more inclusive, innovative work environments. She has been featured in the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Financial Post, and Flare Magazine.
A strong advocate in encouraging more women to consider a career in trades, Woods is a recipient of the YWCA Women of Distinction Award, has been named to the 40 Under 40 list, recognized as a 2017 Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, and honoured as one of the Top 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining.
