Recognized as one of Thinkers50’s top thought leaders in management, Professor Julian Birkinshaw specializes in the impact of digital technology on established businesses. He is the bestselling author of 15 books and frequently featured in international media outlets, including CNN, BBC, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, and The Times. His informative presentations explore the challenge of corporate reinvention and renewal in today’s fast-changing world, with a focus on digital transformation, strategic agility, and the changing nature of leadership.

Birkinshaw is currently the Vice Dean and Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the London Business School. He is the incoming Dean of the prestigious Ivey Business School at Western University, with his five-year appointment beginning August 2024. Birkinshaw is also a Fellow of the British Academy, the Strategic Management Society, and the American Academy of Management.

A prolific writer, Birkinshaw is the author of 15 books including Mindtools for Managers, Fast/Forward, Becoming a Better Boss, and Reinventing Management. He has also written over 100 articles, with his article “How Incumbents Survive and Thrive” winning the best Harvard Business Review article of the year award in 2022.

Birkinshaw has degrees from the Ivey School of Business and the University of Durham. He has also been awarded honorary doctorates from the Stockholm School of Economics and Copenhagen Business School.
