Peter Aceto

Former President and CEO, Tangerine

Peter Aceto is a passionate leader. As the former President and CEO of Tangerine, he stands for more than a simple approach to  leadership: his goal is to change the conversation, and to inspire unconventional thinking and transparency that delivers unparalleled results for business and consumers.

Peter helped to shape the cornerstones of success for Tangerine, where entrepreneurship and innovation are supported, customer obsession is demanded, and hierarchies and complexity are left behind. His relentless focus yielded outstanding results for Tangerine and its customers, and proved particularly instrumental in the $3.1 billion acquisition of ING DIRECT by Scotiabank in 2012.

Peter’s career with Tangerine began in Canada more than 16 years ago as a founding member of its senior leadership team. Prior to his appointment as CEO in 2008, he held the posts of Chief Risk Officer, Chief of Staff and Chief Lending Officer at Tangerine.

Peter is a social media leader and a frequent blogger. He is regularly profiled in media, including a monthly leadership column with The Globe and Mail, a feature in Forbes magazine as the Social CEO, and in The Huffington Post as one of top 50 Social CEOs on Twitter.

He was named 2012 Business Person of the Year by Western Law School, and recognized as 2010 Communicator of the Year by the IABC Toronto Chapter. In addition, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee award for his contribution to Canada’s leadership as a digital nation and for his contribution to his community.

Peter is the author of Weology: How Everybody Wins When We Comes Before Me, published in 2015.

Weology: How Everybody Wins When We Comes Before Me

Peter Aceto is not your average executive. The former president and CEO of Tangerine, he ran the business in an unorthodox and intuitively human way.

The bank has no tellers, no lineups, no bricks-and-mortar branches for its customers to visit. But people are at the core of the operation: loyal, happy and engaged employees who help thousands of customers save their money, buy homes and prepare for a healthy, happy financial life.

In this talk, Peter explains the “people-first” leadership strategies that have made Tangerine such a popular bank with Canadians.
