At The Spotlight with Risha Grant: Diversity Done Differently

From her race, gender, and lifestyle choices to being the founder and CEO of an award-winning diversity consulting and communications firm, every area of Risha Grant’s life intersects with diversity. She joined us for an exclusive event with our clients to take us all on a deep dive through diversity and inclusion, and what it really means.

It was an early morning event, but Risha’s high-energy, humorous, and honest talk had the audience openly engaging on what can be a difficult topic. She outlined the differences between diversity and inclusion, and explored unconscious bias and the impact it can have both in a workplace and a community. What made her talk unique was that she shared her own experiences and her own biases to truly illustrate the positive effects of inclusion and the negative ripple effects of bias.

Diversity vs. Inclusion

In the video below, she explains why inclusion goes beyond diversity.

Unconscious Bias

Next, she moved into unconscious bias, exploring exactly what it means and how it manifests itself. She drew on her own experiences to explain how powerful bias can be, and how it can inadvertently influence the way we see and treat others.

Equity vs. Equality

Then Risha walked us through confronting our own biases and calling them out for what they are — BS. Once we can own our biases, she says, we can begin to strive for equity and actually create a society that gives everyone a fair shot.

On stage, Risha Grant draws on her passion, knowledge, and humour to empower attendees to engage with diversity and inclusion in their workplace. Her approach has helped NBA teams, governors, mayors, Fortune 500 companies, non-profit organizations, and community leaders to reduce bias and further their understanding of the importance of diversity and inclusion in today’s modern world.
