How “Over-Parenting” Is “Under-Preparing” Our Kids…And What To Do About It
An award-winning, Harvard-trained doctor, researcher, media expert, and lecturer on human motivation, Dr. Shimi Kang is observing unprecedented levels of stress, disconnection, anxiety, depression, obesity, and addiction in children. As the author of the 2015 International Book Award Winner, The Self-Motivated Kid and the Dolphin Parent, Dr. Kang is determined to bring parents, teachers, coaches, and administrators together to do something about it.
In her new and dynamic presentation “The Self-Motivated Kid”, Dr. Kang draws upon irrefutable science and unforgettable stories to walk audiences through her three-part method for raising healthy, happy, self-motivating kids. She looks at how “over-parenting” behaviors are, in fact, “under-parenting” behaviors, as they under-prepare young people for real life; she shares key skills children need to be equipped with (and shows how to equip them); she proposes a new, “dolphin” model of parenting; and lastly, she leaves the audience with the tools they need to empower themselves and their children.
