Did you always want to work in the speaking industry? If not, what other careers did you consider?
Quite frankly, I had no idea this industry even existed! After I learned more about it, I was very intrigued. I have the pleasure of being exposed to such intelligent and though-provoking talent that I don’t think I would have been, had I not been in my current position at Speakers’ Spotlight.
Any advice for people getting started in the industry?
Jump in and get to know the speakers and what they are about. Read the books of those that you are interested in. There’s a wealth of knowledge out there just waiting for you!
Do you have any great stories from events you’ve attended featuring Speakers’ Spotlight speakers?
Attending my first Speakers’ Spotlight Showcase in 2009 was a game changer for me. I got to see first-hand the talent that we work with and I was blown away. Craig Kielburger was speaking and I just remember thinking: “Wow!” It inspired me to be a better person, and I think that’s what all our speakers’ attempt to do–make the world a better place.
What is your favourite thing about working with our speakers? With clients?
Interacting with unique individuals that I wouldn’t normally have the chance to meet is my favourite thing about working with our speakers. They keep me constantly wanting to learn more. I respect our clients for bringing our speakers into their organizations and exposing their company to inspiring and motivational topics that may lead to a better workplace, and ultimately, a better world.
Best subject in school?
Math (no surprise there!)
Which Canadian city is your favourite?
Vancouver–it’s just so pretty and has a great nature scene! Although, my hometown (Toronto) is pretty awesome, too. 🙂
Desert island album?
Can’t go wrong with anything Michael Jackson!
Last book you read?
I Didn’t Do It For You, by Michaela Wrong. I usually read novels however, this is a history book. My father recommended this to me when I recently shared with him my increasing interest in our ancestral country’s history. After the first few pages, I was hooked!
Last film you saw?
The Avengers (meh!)
What speaker(s) alive, or who have already passed away, would you love to hear speak?
Maya Angelou.
