Director of Gesundheit Institute
Dr. Patch Adams has dedicated his life to the belief that “healing should be a loving human interchange, not a business transaction.” A warm, witty, medicine man who is simultaneously a healer, teacher, clown, and entertainer, his dynamic lectures offer creative solutions to the major issues in health care delivery, and are guaranteed to be provocative, exuberant, challenging and fun.
Adams achieved international attention when the Hollywood blockbuster Patch Adams, starring Robin Williams was based on his life. The film was nominated for two Golden Globe awards for Best Picture and Best Actor.
Adams is the director of the Gesundheit Institute, a centre of holistic medical care based on the belief that one cannot separate the health of the individual from the health of the family, the community, the world, and the health care system itself. In its 40-year history, Gesundheit has offered care to tens of thousands, given workshops and lectures in over 65 countries, built and supported clinics, schools, and orphanages from El Salvador to Cambodia, and brought the joy of clowning to many parts of the world damaged by violence and injustice.
