Technology and Marketing Expert | Startup Fanatic
Named one of Marketing Magazine’s “Top 30 Under 30”, Erin Bury is an entrepreneur, marketer, former technology journalist, and startup advisor. A monthly columnist for the Financial Post and a tech commentator on CTV News, Bury shares the ins-and-outs of entrepreneurship, how to harness the latest digital trends from chatbots to VR, marketing to millennials, and creating a killer personal brand. Her other claim to fame is she’s been retweeted by Oprah — twice.
Bury is currently the co-founder and CEO at Willful, an online estate planning platform, where she drives the company’s mission to make it easier for Canadians to prepare for and deal with death in a digital age. Prior to this, she spent six years as managing director at Eighty-Eight, a creative communications agency, where she worked with big brands such as Sony Pictures Television, Torstar, Yellow Pages, and PayPal, as well as countless startups. Before joining Eighty-Eight, Bury was the managing editor at startup publication BetaKit, and the director of communications at Sprouter, which was acquired by Postmedia in 2011.
A journalism graduate, Bury has written for publications such as The Globe and Mail, Mashable, Marketing Magazine, Strategy Magazine, and VentureBeat. She comments frequently in the press about marketing and entrepreneurship, including The New York Times, Forbes, CNN, The Toronto Star, and Canadian Business.
Bury has spoken at events across North America with up to 1,000 attendees, including Haste & Hustle, CTAConf, Content Marketing Conference, and the Profit W100. She has also hosted events for PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Square Canada, Microsoft Canada, and several entrepreneurship organizations, and has interviewed leading executives and entrepreneurs on-stage, including Shark Tank entrepreneur Mark Cuban.
In her spare time, Bury runs her side hustle, The County Wine Tours, a bicycle wine tour company based in Prince Edward County, and advises multiple startups including Quill, Pawzy, and Pressed News. She is also a board member for Save the Children Canada and a member of the #Tech4SickKids Advisory Council for SickKids Hospital.
