BRUNY SURIN
Canadian Gold-Medalist
Olympian Bruny Surin made his debut in Canadian athletics in the 1975 Pan-American Games and went on to win a Gold Medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Emigrating with his family at the age of seven from Haiti to Quebec, Surin developed an infatuation with basketball. Following in the footsteps of his childhood friends, he discovered his talent and passion for track and field activities. His initial success in the long jump and triple jump earned him a spot on the Canadian National Team. He attended several international meets including the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul.
Surin is the third fastest sprinter of all time, a seven-time Canadian 100 meter Champion, a two-time World Indoor Champion (60 meters) and a two-time World Outdoor Silver Medalist (100 meters). He won the Gold Medal in the 4 x 100 meter race in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In 2008, Surin was honoured with a place in Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
As the Founder of the Bruny Surin Foundation, an ambassador of Nike Canada and a member of the Haitian Chamber of Commerce, Surin offers his experiences as motivation for a wide range of audiences. His hard work, perseverance and dedication to success empower and enlighten all who have the pleasure to hear his story.
