Coaching for Great Work
.Coaching has gone mainstream, embraced by organizations, executives and managers around the world. But here’s a disturbing trend. A recent survey suggested that less than 25% of managers felt that coaching was making any significant difference to their effectiveness and impact.
Coaching for Great Work is a simple, practical approach for the time-stretched manager. First, it tackles the three most persistent issues that all managers struggle with:
1. Everyone is working far harder than they should.
2. There’s no time to focus on the work that matters.
3. The team is less than its parts.
Secondly, the program solves the challenge of why coaching in organizations isn’t working as well as it should. This comprehensive coaching program gives managers, executives and leaders the skills and capacity to provide focused, results-based coaching in 10 minutes or less. It builds focus, expands possibilities and creates accountability, all to help drive engagement and increase impact.
Coaching for Great Work cuts through the hype and unnecessary complexity of coaching, overcomes the key points of resistance managers have to coaching and makes it easy for them to best engage the people around them quickly, simply and easily.
The program is above all a strategic tool to help managers do more Great Work. Great Work is the work that matters – the work that drives and supports an organization’s goals, increases the impact of both individuals and teams, and builds engagement throughout the organization.

We were launching a major national, strategic initiative around a new culture at The Bay. The Coaching for Great Work program was brought in to give our key managers across the country the coaching skills needed to sustain the cultural and behavioural change we needed. While the content was delivered in a fun and highly interactive way, it was the simplicity and immediate applicability of the material that was very refreshing. Our team is eager and engaged. I’m delighted with the impact the program has had on our people and what they’re doing as a result (and frankly, I’m not easily delighted). Definitely recommended!

What stands out about Coaching for Great Work is the practicality and usability of the tools. The program is based on science but it's been simplified so people can get their heads around it quickly. Anecdotally, we keep hearing stories of success from the moment they leave the classroom. And when we survey people eight weeks after the program about the extent to which they're putting the tools into action, the level of sustained motivation and confidence is astonishing. It's fun, it's engaging, and it's different. People love it..

January 2010Do More Great Work: Stop the Busywork. Start the Work that Matters
You work hard. You put in the hours. Yet you feel like you are constantly treading water with "Good Work" that keeps you going but never quite moves you ahead. Or worse, you are mired in "Bad Work"—endless meetings and energy-draining bureaucratic traps. Do More Great Work gets to the heart of the problem: Even the best performers are spending less than a fraction of their time doing "Great Work"—the kind of innovative work that pushes us forward, stretches our creativity, and truly satisfies us. Michael Bungay Stanier, Canadian Coach of the Year in 2006, is a business consultant who’s found a way to move us away from bad work (and even good work), and toward more time spent doing great work.
