As President and CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, Alofs has helped raise over one billion dollars for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top five cancer research centres in the world. His revolutionary approach to social enterprise has led to the Foundation twice being named “One of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures.”
Prior to joining Princess Margaret, Alofs moved from marketing positions at Colgate-Palmolive to being appointed president of HMV Music Stores Canada. During his tenure with HMV, he increased the company’s annual revenue from $30 million to over $200 million, and HMV was voted “Music Retailer of the Year” for six consecutive years by the Canadian Music Industry.
In 1995, Alofs joined BMG Music Canada as president, and was named “Music Industry Executive of the Year” in 1996. He later accepted an executive position with the Walt Disney Company, overseeing 500 Disney Stores and 15,000 employees across North America. He also helped launch one of the most successful internet IPOs of the 1990s as President, Strategic Business Units of MP3.com.
Alofs has been recognized as one of Canada’s “Top 40 Under 40,” as well as one of the “Best of the Best” by his Top 40 peers. He has served as board chair of Covenant House, Toronto and on the board of the UICC in Geneva.
