The Curiosity Crisis: The Truth About a World Without Wonder

In this eye-opening keynote presentation, Karen provides evidence of a large-scale Curiosity Crisis that is impacting everything from how we educate our kids, to how we hire people, solve problems and work together to drive growth and do good. In a world where knowing is valued more than asking, Karen makes a powerful case for more curiosity, openness, and empathy.

What's Your CQ? How to Increase Your Curiosity Quotient to Drive Good and Growth

In this thought-provoking keynote presentation, Karen introduces the concept of the “CQ,” or “Curiosity Quotient,” and encourages audience members to consider the limitations we place on creativity, innovation, possibility and growth when they are working and living with a low CQ. The good news is that everyone has the capacity to increase their CQ through practice and with the support of curiosity-inspiring tools and techniques. Audience members will complete an abridged version of the CQ assessment and take home a set of practical tools and techniques they can use to increase their own CQ and that of their team.

Curiosity: Your Secret Weapon for Managing Uncertainty and Change

Nothing is certain but change itself and nothing sets us up to manage uncertainty and change as well as a commitment to curiosity does. In this educational and entertaining keynote presentation, Karen explores curiosity as a concept and as a practice and explains how curiosity can help individuals, teams and organizations become more adaptable, creative, and innovative and much less risk-adverse.

Workshops:

A) CURIOSITY 101 is a full-day workshop that examines the nature of curiosity and what makes curiosity both challenging and rewarding for individuals and teams. Through interactive and team-building activities, participants will learn more about their own capacity for curiosity, what stands in the way of group curiosity and what to do when curiosity and creativity get stalled.

B) CLARIFY is a full-day workshop that explores the concepts of “problem-finding” and “question-finding,” both important curiosity practices that often get overlooked in the innovation process. Teams will work through a series of challenges with the aim of clarifying the part of the problem that presents the greatest opportunity for insight and innovation.

C) COLLECT is a full-day workshop that introduces participants to a range of creative and collaborative qualitative research methods that lead to fresh, new insights. The course also explores how to move from data to insights that can be used to generate powerful ideas. The workshop is not just for “researchers.” It is incredibly useful for any team that wants access to tools and techniques that will help enhance their consumer/user empathy and understanding.

D) CREATE is a full-day workshop that teaches participants how to move from insights to ideas, by extracting the juiciest findings from the research studies they commission and transforming them into powerful, tangible ideas. A series of generative thinking and ideation techniques will be taught and practiced.

E) CONCEPT is a full-day workshop that leads participants through a concepting process that leads to user-centred prototypes. It is through the act and art of concepting that ideas get tested, enhanced and articulated in ways that help teams get clear on where the big opportunities are and what to launch. A number of concepting tools and techniques will be taught and practiced.
