Author and Playwright
Dan Needles’ rich and charming rural neighbourhood may be difficult to find on a map but it is very close to the Canadian soul. The playwright and author of the popular Wingfield Farm stage plays and books has been entertaining corporate, government, and public service groups across Canada for 25 years. The winner of the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour, Dan delights audiences with his laugh-out-loud take on small town life.
For 15 years, Dan wrote a regular column for Harrowsmith-Country Life and Country Guide magazines. Now he writes for Small Farm Canada, Farmers Forum and three Ontario regional magazines, On The Bay, In the Hills, and Watershed. His books include Wingfield’s World: The Complete Letters from Wingfield Farm and With Axe and Flask: The History of Persephone Township from Pre-Cambrian Times to the Present.
Dan has entertained audiences ranging from the Perth County Holstein Club Ladies Night to the Muck Soils Research Station. He also has appeared for the Canadian Club, The Canadian Bar Association, Royal Bank, the Royal Winter Fair, the Outdoor Farm Show, the Writers’ Trust of Canada, and hundreds of farm organizations throughout Canada.
In 2014, Dan was named a member of the Order of Canada for a body of work that celebrates the country’s farm communities.
