After nearly 2 decades of competitive ski racing, Beckie Scott retired following the 2006 winter season as North America’s most decorated, successful cross-country skier and one of the world’s best all around cross-country ski racers. A trailblazer for nordic sports in North America, Scott won 2 Olympic medals – a gold in the 5km pursuit at the 2002 Salt Lake City games, and a silver medal with teammate Sara Renner in the team sprint event at the 2006 Torino games.
During the 2005-06 campaign, Scott capped off her stellar career with a brilliant World Cup tour highlighted by finishing second overall in the World Cup standings and racking up 10 world cup podium finishes with 4 victories. Scott leaves her competitive career as a proven superstar, and a total of 15 World Cup medals on her mantle.
Known as a tireless advocate for drug-free sport, Scott is Canada's current representative on the World Anti-Doping Agency's Athlete Committee, and was elected by her peers to the IOC Athlete’s commission for an 8-year term during the 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Scott was also recently appointed to the board of directors of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games Organizing Committee, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, and the Canadian Olympic Executive committee.
Throughout her career, Scott has also been recognized for her charitable endeavours, and was most recently honoured with the Governor General’s Meritorious service award. She is a UNICEF Canada special representative, co-chair of the Canadian Advisory council for Right to Play, and has made several trips to Africa on behalf of these humanitarian organizations.
In recognition of her numerous achievements, Scott is a two-time (2002-03) recipient of the John Semmelink memorial award as the snow-sport athlete who through sportsmanship, conduct and ability, best represents Canada in international competition.
