Gord Paynter
Blind Comedian & Motivational Speaker
Losing his eyesight in his early twenties as a result of diabetes, Gord thought his lifelong dream of becoming a comedian was gone forever. In truth, blindness opened his eyes to a whole new world of opportunity, humour and motivation. His lack of vision has not affected his perceptiveness. If anything, it's made him more perceptive, creating a unique style of comedy that never fails to leave the audiences laughing.
For over 20 years, Gord Paynter has been entertaining audiences throughout North America with his original brand of humour.
Losing his eyesight in his early twenties as a result of diabetes, Paynter thought his lifelong dream of becoming a comedian was gone forever. In truth, blindness opened his eyes to a whole new world of opportunity, humour and motivation. His lack of vision has, if anything, made him more perceptive, spurring him to create a distinctive style of comedy that never fails to leave audiences laughing.
It all began on amateur night at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club. His refreshingly unique performance surprised the audience and triggered fits of laughter. This laughter sparked the rediscovery of his dream.
Paynter tours throughout North America performing as both a stand-up comic and a motivational speaker. He has been featured at the international comedy festival Just For Laughs in Montreal, and has appeared on Club 54, CBC's Fifth Estate and The Nature Of Things With David Suzuki.
His latest book, The Way I 'See' It, is a compilation of his travel stories that appear regularly in ViBrant Magazine.
Paynter's unique ability to drop key company names and work situations into his shared stories and jokes gives every presentation a fresh and personal feel.
