Ben Mulroney
Host of Canadian Idol & eTalk Daily
Ben Mulroney's natural charm and easy-going style make him an outstanding host - not only for the much loved Canadian Idol program – but also for corporate, educational and association engagements. As host of Canadian Idol and eTalk Daily, covering red carpet ceremonies and interviewing celebrities, Ben cut his teeth in the broadcasting industry early and has not looked back since. His decision to not follow his father's political footsteps landed him on the stage of Canadian Idol and into the living rooms of millions of Canadians.
Affable and urbane, Ben Mulroney's role as host of CTV's Canadian Idol and eTalk Daily, couldn't be a better fit. A self-confessed pop culture junkie, Mulroney is front and centre on eTalk Daily, covering all aspects of the fast-paced celebrity world from red carpets to a behind the scenes look at blockbuster films. Mulroney has brought the Idol phenomenon to life for Canadian viewers, from talent auditions across the country to the nail-biting season finale. You do not need to be a Canadian Idol fan to appreciate Ben's enthusiasm, natural charm and easy-going style. His professionalism on stage translates naturally to many audiences.
Mulroney got his broadcasting start as the Quebec City correspondent for Talk TV's the chatroom, where he beamed in weekly via Web cam to rant and rave about television. He became a co-host on the interactive show in July 2001. He moved to a new role of entertainment reporter for CTV's Canada AM in October 2001, reviewing the newest releases and the hottest shows. Additionally, Mulroney is the host of the national Canadian radio countdown show, etalk20. Since 2002, he has covered red carpet arrivals for the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards and the Emmy's. He has been the co-host of CTV's At The Junos, the red carpet pre-show at the Juno Awards.
As the son of former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, you would think Ben would naturally have gravitated toward politics. With a law degree from Laval University, in Quebec City, and a history degree from Duke University, Mulroney's choice to work in television might surprise a lot of people. His legal degree affords him flexibility to pursue his passions – movies, television, film and politics.
