1. THE NEW RADICALS

A powerful idea is sweeping North America: that our work can become a source of meaning and a way to make a difference.

Julia coined the phrase “New Radicals” to describe men and women who are discovering how to put the skills acquired in their careers to work on the world’s greatest challenges. It’s an idea that has become even more relevant as the global financial crisis encourages us to question the fundamentals on which our society – and our work – is based.

New Radicals are people at midlife, those just starting out in their careers, and everyone in between. They may be Activists – that is, they change careers to work for a mission-driven organization. Or Entrepreneurs – they start a firm whose core goal is to do good. Or Innovators – they drive change from inside their field or organization.

In addition to sharing their inspiring stories, Julia’s talk includes practical advice for people who want to reinvent their work. She helps people in the audience answer questions such as “What skills can I leverage?”, “Where is the greatest need?”, and “How do I get there from here?”

Is your organization eager to find fresh ways to recruit and retain people? Are you looking for a talk that is long on both inspiration and information? Your audience will be thrilled to learn about the New Radicals.

2. GREEN IS GOLD

The environment remains top of mind for Canadians. In this entertaining presentation, your audience will learn how their organization can go green.

They’ll be introduced to a simple process they can immediately put into place. Learn how to do whatever they determine is most important – whether lightening their footprint, creating a healthier and more productive work environment, enhancing relationships with stakeholders, and/or delivering results to the bottom line.

Strategies and tactics from pioneering organizations will help them see what’s possible and be motivated to begin.

If your organization is eager to find fresh ways to recruit, retain, and inspire employees, you will be interested in this topic.

3. LEADERSHIP WE CAN BELIEVE IN

“A nation turns its lonely eyes to you...”
- Simon and Garfunkel

The problems of our world – including the current global economic crisis – have underscored the need for a new kind of leader in the 21st century: the authentic leader.

Julia has worked with C-suite executives, cabinet ministers, and celebrities as a speechwriter and a coach. Based on this experience, she has developed a solid understanding of how leaders become – and remain – authentic. And, in doing so, forge real and lasting connections with their constituents.

You’ll discover how authentic leaders work. How they communicate. How they reflect on their experiences. How they ask for and receive feedback. And how they achieve results.

Whether you’re a leader now, or want to explore how to become known as a leader to your colleagues – up, down, and across the organization – this is a presentation for you. Because, contrary to popular belief, great leaders aren’t born with particular traits; they have to learn to become and remain authentic.

JULIA MOULDEN

Six Billion Reasons to Get out of Bed Each Day

Do recent media headlines make you want to pull the covers over your head and wait until it’s over? You’re not alone: people around the world are hoping to hear good news – and soon.

Which is why Julia Moulden is on the road right now, telling inspiring stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

She’s talking about modern-day heroes like:

  • The New Radicals – men and women who are putting the skills acquired in their careers to work on the world’s greatest challenges.

  • Authentic leaders – who know that we want to be led by men and women with clear values (think President Obama).

  • And organizations that have embraced “green” – because it’s the right thing to do, because it creates a more productive workplace, and because it goes straight to the bottom line.

Perhaps best of all, each of these topics is not simply “feel good for an hour, then get back to work.” Each is also deeply instructive, and includes practical ideas that everyone can incorporate into what they do each day.

Julia coined the phrase “New Radicals”, and her book, We Are The New Radicals: A Manifesto for Reinventing Yourself and Saving the World was published internationally by McGraw-Hill, New York. Her first book, Green is Gold, an environmental primer, was translated into six languages.

Julia has a weekly column on the HuffingtonPost; “The Giving Life” appears each Saturday. Her byline has also appeared in a diverse range of publications, including the Globe and Mail, Toronto Life, and Ms Magazine.

A speechwriter for CEOs, cabinet ministers, and celebrities for more than 20 years, Julia’s clients include North America’s leading organizations, such as AstraZeneca, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and Rogers Communications.

Born in Toronto in 1956, Julia has lived in Europe, the U.S., and Mexico. She kayaks as often as possible on Georgian Bay.

COMMENTS FROM AUDIENCES

"Julia Moulden spoke at Salon Voltaire during our inaugural series. Her talk was honed, professional, and engaging. We evaluate our speakers on only one metric: how many questions they elicit from the audience. After her talk, the hands went up, and we didn’t have enough time for all questioners. We would be delighted to have Julia return to speak at Salon Voltaire."
