Renowned conductor Peter McCoppin has conducted all of Canada’s major orchestras and ballet companies on numerous occasions and led the Canadian Opera Company on a US tour. He was the first Canadian to appear as a guest conductor with the Shanghai and National Symphonies of China, and he was the Music Director of the Charlotte Symphony and the Victoria Symphony, British Columbia. McCoppin is currently Music Director of the Asia Pacific Entertainment Incorporation, and an in-demand keynote speaker on leadership, communication and team building.

Renowned conductor Peter McCoppin was Music Director of the Charlotte Symphony, North Carolina from 1993 to 2000 and Music Director of the Victoria Symphony, British Columbia for ten years to 1999. Formerly Music Adviser and Principal Guest Conductor of the Vancouver Symphony, he led that orchestra out of bankruptcy in 1989. McCoppin has also been Principal Guest Conductor of the Syracuse Symphony, New York and Resident Conductor of Canada’s Edmonton Symphony.

Born in Toronto, McCoppin’s musical experiences began as a boy church chorister. He later earned his Bachelor of Music in organ performance at the University of Toronto and went on to study conducting under Erich Leinsdorf, Hans Swarovsky, Sergiu Celebidache and Lovro von Matacic. From 1975 to 1978, he was Head of the Orchestral Program and Professor of Conducting at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

McCoppin has conducted all of Canada’s major orchestras and ballet companies on numerous occasions and led the Canadian Opera Company on a US tour. He was the first Canadian to appear as a guest conductor with the Shanghai and National Symphonies of China. He has led the Tokyo Symphony, the Osaka Symphony, the Sapporo Symphony, and Gunma Symphony in Japan and the KBS Symphony in Seoul, Korea, the National Symphony of Mexico, and orchestras throughout the U.S.A. McCoppin has collaborated with many of the world’s greatest living soloists: Yo Yo Ma, Itzak Perlman, Steven Isserlis, Stephen Hough, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Richard Margison, and Nigel Kennedy.

Making his Australian debut in 1999 with the Queensland and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, McCoppin returned in 2001 to make his debut with the Sydney and Western Australian Symphony Orchestras as well as appearing again with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

McCoppin is currently Music Director of the Asia Pacific Entertainment Incorporation, and an in-demand keynote speaker on leadership, communication and team building.
