From national and provincial political campaigns, to environmental stories in the Arctic, to sex scandals in the White House through to pilgrims mourning the death of the pope on the streets of Rome, his job has given him an endlessly fascinating view of our world. He won the 1995 National RTNDA Award for spot news for his coverage of referendum night in Montreal, and in 2000 was honoured with a Bronze Medal as "Best Correspondent" in an international competition at the New York Festivals - an award for a compendium of stories from Kosovo and the Walkerton water crisis.

Mallen previously hosted and produced Ontario's longest-running provincial affairs talk show Focus Ontario on Global Television, a forum for enlightening and entertaining interviews with political leaders and pundits, authors and ordinary people. Focus Ontario won the 2009 National Radio Television News Directors Award for Best News Information Program. 

In his free time, Mallen has written scripts for acclaimed documentaries, including Leap of Faith: The Dance of Mikhail Baryshnikov and No Country for Young Men. Additionally, Mallen was an award-winning travel writer for The National Post and the Post Media group of newspapers, focused on the joys and travails of travelling with a young child.

Currently, Mallen is enjoying life abroad with his family – he’s Global National News’ Europe Bureau Chief.
