Rafe Mair is a former lawyer, cabinet minister and scratch golfer who went into honest work and became a broadcaster, writer and speaker on public affairs. He is a political junkie and, because he's been there, a highly skeptical one who combines gut reaction with pungent reaction punctuated with what has been called his "wicked sense of humour".

Rafe Mair, a former lawyer and cabinet minister, is well known as a broadcaster and writer on public affairs. He was the British Columbia minister responsible for constitutional affairs leading up to the patriation of the Canadian Constitution, and through 1980 attended all the critical meetings either as Premier Bennett’s representative or adviser. He has traveled extensively researching political and constitutional matters, including to Germany to evaluate their bicameral federal system, Switzerland to learn about their federation and the United States, courtesy of the State Department, to study the inter-relationship of the White House and Congress as well as relations between state governments and Washington.

Mair has been honoured with numerous awards for his broadcasting and journalism, including BC Broadcast Performer of the Year (BCAB) in 1993, the prestigious Michener award for courageous journalism in 1995, and the Bruce Hutchison Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003. In November 2005 he was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Hall of Fame.

Mair is the author of numerous books including, Canada: Is Anyone Listening?, which offers wide-ranging views on health, the environment and Canada’s unity. His other books include the best-selling, Rants Raves and Recollections, Still Ranting, Rafe: A Memoir and Mountains: More Thoughts on Things that Matter.

Mair is a political junkie and, because he’s been there, a highly skeptical one who combines gut reaction with pungent reaction punctuated with what has been called his “wicked sense of humour”. He writes regularly for www.thetyee.ca and The Strategic Culture Federation, a Russian online paper in six languages.
 
Currently Chair of the Education Committee of the BC Chiropractors Association, Mair is also the spokesperson for Save Our Rivers Society. He is co-founder and official spokesperson of the group of environmental activists, The Common Sense Canadian.
 
Mair has been very active in Mental Health Issues and has been Canadian Mental Health Association’s Media Person of the Year. He founded the annual Bottom Line Conference dealing with mental health in the workplaces.
 
Mair speaks on politics - BC, Canadian and World, as well as health issues, mental health and everything in between.
