Sylvain Larocque is one of Canada's fastest rising stars. His versatility as a performer enables him to work in many ways... he can be an endearing host, an entertaining stand-up and can also write hilarious comedic material. On top of that he is one of the very few bilingual performers in the country - he can make anybody laugh regardless of their culture and mother tongue. This business school graduate combines his scholastic endeavors with his extensive knowledge of the corporate world and adapts his act in order to please the most demanding audiences.
For some comics, the road to fame is anything but straight. This was the case for Sylvain Larocque, who graduated with a major in Chemistry from McGill University and then pursued another degree in marketing and management at the well-known business school, HEC. After these twists and turns, who would have foreseen a career in comedy?
His one man-show, Tueur à gags, has already been released on DVD. He has starred in his own television series, C'est mon Show!, appeared on the big screen in Camping Sauvage and performed on stage in the comedy Ladies Night and Mars et Vénus. Over the years, Larocque has also been a regular at Just for laughs comedy festivals and galas and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. His other TV appearances include “The Best of Montreal Comedy Showcase” and his own prime-time special on CBC’s critically acclaimed series Comics! He has participated in shows with some of Canada’s most renowned musical acts including The Crash Test Dummies and The Barenaked Ladies. Perfectly bilingual he can switch from one language to the other seamlessly. This quality has enabled him to do shows and please audiences from coast to coast.
Despite these public successes, writing is still his favourite pastime. Larocque has written for many comics. He was the head writer for all the Grand Rire Bleue galas in Quebec City one year, has written a documentary series, written and starred in a play from February 2005 until this season. Currently, Larocque teaches writing at the “École Nationale de l’Humour”.
Larocque uses his extensive knowledge of the corporate world and adapts his act in order to please the most demanding audiences. Rhythm, quality writing and impeccable timing are what make him one of the most sought-after comedic performers in the country today.

May 2006Gay Marriage: The Story of a Canadian Social Revolution
Few issues have dominated recent Canadian politics like the legalization of same-sex marriage. As a political correspondent for The Canadian Press, Sylvain Larocque had a front-row seat for this battle in the fight for gay rights in Canada. He recounts the story here on every level, from the legal decisions to the social impact to the political reactions. He analyzes the judgments, laws, and election strategies, providing a behind-the-scenes account of how the institution of marriage, which many regarded as unchangeable, was expanded to include same-sex couples.
