Over the past fifteen years, Geoff Green has led over 100 expeditions to Antarctica and the Arctic for some of the most prestigious organizations in the world, including the Discovery Channel and the Smithsonian Institution. Few speakers can combine gripping stories of polar adventure, expertise about the effects of climate change, and inspiring stories about youth education, activism and transformation – in one presentation! Geoff's popular "To the Ends of the Earth" presentation leads audience members on an extraordinary journey from Pole to Pole – sharing tales of adventure, personal challenge, and important observations about the interconnectedness of the global ecosystem. Presentation topics include...

Leadership and Endurance: Sir Ernest Shackleton was a key figure in the heroic age of exploration, and demonstrated extraordinary qualities of leadership when his team of 22 men met with disaster while trying to cross the Antarctic continent. Geoff has retraced Shackelton's route six times – leading people through challenging conditions is one of Geoff's passions. During this presentation Geoff brings to life Shackleton's incredible story of survival and speaks directly to important lessons about perseverance, leadership, teamwork and courage.

The International Polar Year (IPY): Every fifty years, the world's leading scientists and researchers come together for an immense global scientific program to study the Arctic and Antarctic. During this presentation, in his role as a member of Canada's National Committee for the IPY, Geoff passionately addresses the environmental issues facing the poles today - and by extension, the interconnectedness of the entire global ecosystem.

Passing the Torch: Engaging Youth in Global Issues: Through his award-winning 'Students on Ice' program, Geoff has led nearly one thousand students, scientists and educators to the Arctic and Antarctic. This presentation describes Geoff's journey from public school Teacher, to Polar Expedition Leader, to Founder and Executive Director of one of the world's most exciting educational programs. 'Students on Ice' provides the extraordinary opportunity for today's youth (and tomorrow's leaders) to better understand the implications of environmental issues, and teaches them how to get involved and active in global solutions. The unique, educational ship-based expeditions give youth the rare opportunity to mentor with world-class scientists, researchers, and young leaders.

  •  The polar regions have risen to the top of environmental concerns. Endowed especially in the high arctic, with unique and newly endangered life forms; holding a large fraction of Earth's fresh water; and subject to exceptionally rapid climate change, these remote parts of the world have a great importance for the generations immediately ahead. I'm glad that Geoff Green and Students on Ice are leading in the kind of environmental education most needed.

  • Thank you very much for your presentation on Saturday at the Great Canadian Challenge. It was a great break from the tension of competing and very 'geographical' at the same time. The students, and their parents, loved it. I heard many positive comments as the afternoon wore on. I was also impressed when you stayed for the semi-final round. You knew you had a drive ahead of you, yet you supported the competitors by staying. That kind of interest is certainly appreciated by me and by the students.

Bio
