Martin is the author of the first North American book on employee fitness for the Canadian government, and of Phacts of Life, a weight management book translated into five languages and serialized in Britain's The Daily Express. His other publications include: The Little Book of Lifestyle Artistry and Walking, Weight and Wellness.
Martin's background is diverse, as are his accomplishments. He practices what he preaches and lives an active lifestyle full of rich experiences. He has a PhD from Stanford University for Exercise Physiology. With colleagues from the University of Victoria, Martin re-wrote the science of cold-water survival and developed clothing that has been patented and marketed worldwide. He is also a co-developer of the PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire), which is used by millions of people throughout North America.
His most recent book, Walking, Weight and Wellness, examines the life changing potential of regular walking and its role in weight loss and weight maintenance. Dr. Collis and his colleagues at Speakwell are some of the leading experts in pedometers (step counters) in North America. Their pedometer, the Stepwell H215, has been adopted as the pedometer of the 2010 Olympic Games, and now proudly displays the five Olympic Rings.

The Power and the Glory
An hour of uninhibited inspiration that shows how passion and perseverence can lead to life changing performance. This is a time to talk of heroes and Martin will introduce you to heroes from his world and to the unquenchable human spirit that burns within us all. -
Workplace Wellness...Why Working Well Works!
Dr. Collis draws on his many years of experience to look at why well-designed programs of workplace wellness are cost-effective and have a positive impact on employee morale. This presentation looks at employee fitness programs, injury prevention, stress reduction, and the role of the Employee Assistance Program (E.A.P.) in the wellness landscape. -
Weight Loss for the Mind: Stress Resiliency
The word stress can be thought of as an acronym Staying Tense Relentlessly Every Single Second, which is a killing position. It has been established that 75% of first visits to a primary care physician have a stress component. In this presentation Martin explains how the body/mind responds to stress and how the relaxation response can restore equilibrium. Laughter, physical activity and a change in perspective are all readily available tools that we can access in dealing with our changing, challenging world. -
Human Soup for the Chicken Soul: For the Love of Laughter
"A merry heart maketh like good medicine." Martin takes a light-hearted look at wellness and the human condition as he explores the ingredients of our "human soup" and the impact of love and laughter on our "chicken soul." Laughter is a reflex, and like all reflexes helps us survive. Laughter has the ability to help us communicate and bond together in group situations. Dr. Collis will highlight the health benefits of laughter and how laughter is an important ingredient in a healthy workplace. -
Healing, Humor and High-Level Wellness: The M.E.L.L.O.W. Approach
A dynamic presentation that informs, entertains and inspires, and sends the audience out of the auditorium feeling great about themselves. Martin uses music and humor in providing some fascinating insights into the functioning of the human body/mind. The 6 elements of M.E.L.L.O.W. (Magic of the Mind, Exercise, Laughter, Love, Optimal Nutrition and Wonder) are used to point the way to lifestyle artistry and high-level personal and professional performance.

Martin Collis was the highlight of the program as he presented perhaps the best speech we've heard in our 16 year history.
-
The perfect keynote.
-
His sort of talent has traditionally been preserved for the likes of Confucius, Muhammad and L. Ron Hubbard, but Collis stuck to the secular — the down to earth, and wove a marvellous presentation around the acronym M.E.L.L.O.W.
-
Dr. Martin Collis! To hear him speak was worth the price of the whole conference.
-
As always the education and entertainment value was immense. I saw one of the depressed members of the group look up and smile for the first time, then beg for one more song — a breakthrough — finally there was communication.
-
Martin possesses the rare gift of being able to portray serious issues in a lighthearted and entertaining way. His presence, stories, songs and message have become a tradition at the International Health, Work & Wellness Conference. Our delegates use words like "passionate", "powerful!", "inspiring!", "thoughtful" and "dynamic!" to describe him.
-
Martin Collis is a genius with words

"I have never enjoyed a speaker so much. I seldom laugh out loud, but on that morning I could not help it. But as well, what you said was so true, so valuable and so inspiring. And so sensible!!
-
You were terrific, the perfect speaker to kick off our convention.
