Brian Burke has succeeded at every stop in his NHL career; as the Assistant GM of the Vancouver Canucks, the General Manager of the Hartford Whalers, in the league's front office as the NHL's Senior Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations, in his role as President & General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks, as the GM and Executive Vice President of the Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks - and now as the new President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Burke becomes the 13th general manager in the Leafs' 92-year history and will try to lead Toronto to its first Stanley Cup championship since 1967. Burke outlined the "three pillars" of his strategy for restoring the Leafs' lustre, citing an up-tempo playing style, fiscal prudence and community involvement as the cornerstones of his management philosophy.

With a talent for rebuilding NHL teams, Burke recently led the Anaheim Ducks to the Stanley Cup in 2007. Prior to that, he turned around the Vancouver Canucks, and was named by The Sporting News as the NHL's Executive of the Year, for his efforts.
