Expert on Financial Reform & Author of A Demon of Our Own Design

An outspoken expert on financial reform and market behaviour, Bookstaber is the author of, A Demon of Our Own Design, which highlighted numerous financial weaknesses that led to the recent economic crisis. Bookstaber has a long and distinguished career in hedge funds, risk management and investment banking, working with various global firms. His award-winning research is regularly presented to Congress, and his keen observations concerning the state of economic and financial conditions have proven to be invaluable.

He regularly testifies in the House and Senate, calling for greater regulation on Wall Street.
Bookstaber has a long and distinguished career in hedge funds, risk management and investment banking. He has worked for Bridgewater Associates, run the Quantitative Equity Fund at FrontPoint Partners, and was in charge of risk management at Moore Capital Management. Bookstaber worked at Ziff Brothers Investments, handling both risk management and running a quantitative equity portfolio. He served as the managing director for firm-wide risk management at Salomon Brothers, in addition to becoming a member of Salomon's powerful Risk Management Committee. Bookstaber also spent ten years at Morgan Stanley in a number of capacities including designing and marketing derivative instruments, proprietary trading, and as Morgan Stanley’s first market-risk manager.
In addition to his book, A Demon of Our Own Design, Bookstaber is the author of three other books, and scores of articles on finance topics ranging from option theory to risk management. A Demon of Our Own Design has become one of the most-respected books in financial circles, and has been #1 on Amazon in finance and selected as a finalist for the prestigious Loeb Award.
Bookstaber won the Graham and Dodd Scroll from the Financial Analysts Federation and the Roger F. Murray Award from the Institute for Quantitative Research in Finance for his research, and was named to the 2009 Conde Nast Portfolio list of top 25 technical innovators, joining the ranks of Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Eric Schmidt.
Bookstaber was a Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a recipient of a Ph.D. in economics from MIT.
