Lloyd Atkinson holds a Ph.D in economics from the University of Michigan and an Honours B.A. degree in economics and political science from the University of Windsor. Among his academic awards, Lloyd is a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and recipient of both a University of Windsor Gold Medal and a University of Michigan Rackham Dissertation Prize. Lloyd has had a distinguished career in academe, in government and in the private sector.

For nine years, until June 2003, Dr. Atkinson served as Vice Chairman, Chief Investment Officer and Chief Strategist at Perigee Investment Counsel, an institutional money manager specializing in corporate pensions.

Prior to joining the investment management industry, Atkinson was for 12 years Executive Vice President and Chief Economist at the Bank of Montreal. Previously, he spent four years working for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C., first as senior adviser to the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress, and then as Deputy Assistant Director to the U.S. Congressional Budget Office. He has taught economics and finance at a number of American universities including the University of Michigan and the University of Maryland. Additionally, he has served as a consultant to the U.S. Delegations to the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Over his career, Dr. Atkinson has served on the Boards of several private and public organizations including Wilfrid Laurier University, the C.D Howe Institute, the Homewood Corporation, and The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.
