Growing up in Val-Morin, Quebec, Anderson was heavily involved in outdoor activities as a child. Persuaded by his brother to try snowboarding, Anderson was instantly enthralled. Soon, both he and his brother joined the Quebec Snowboarding Team and began racing weekly. Anderson mastered all six disciplines of the sport and began his long and solid career by participating in numerous events.
Anderson made history in January 2005 when he became the first man in World Championship history to win two gold medals at the same competition after topping the podium in both the parallel slalom event and the parallel giant slalom in Whistler.
In addition to being a four-time world champion, Anderson has been successful across the board. He has won four consecutive overall FIS Snowboard World Cup titles (2000–2004) and two World Cup overall titles in snowboard cross in 2001-02 and 2005-06. These titles included 19 podiums in parallel giant slalom, and 19 podiums in snowboard cross.
Anderson is also a four-time Olympic athlete, having represented Canada in the 1998 Nagano, 2002 Salt Lake, 2006 Turin, and 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic games. His best result in the Olympics prior to Vancouver 2010 was a fifth place finish in snowboard cross in Turin.
